DESHI AND HIROKI GETTIN COVERAGE IN JAPAN

Some news out of Japan, Deshi has been working hard on a project he has envisioned for a long time. He wanted to skate and film a clip in each of the 47 prefectures of Japan which is crazy!! Deshi has finished up the tour and will be dropping a dvd for all of us to see.

Hiroki has finished up a full part for Color Communications, one of his sponsors that our good friend Yuichi does. Deshi and Rich will both have some footy in Hiroki’s part too. And now that I am claiming Rich is Japanese, he too has some stuff going on, he has an interview in Boardkill magazine coming out soon.

5-Who do you skate with?
I usually skate with Dustin Henry, Cory Mcniel, and Kevin Lowry for sure. but we also go cruise with Denis Montgomery, Jed anderson, Ben Blundell, Drew Merriman, Jeff Thorburn, Geoff Strelow… just whoever wants to come roll around i guess.

6-Where is your favorite local spot?
I usually just skate downtown, but right now I’m hyped on Mcdoogal park. Its a public park in the middle of downtown Calgary, lately we’ve been chilling there lots and just been waxing new ledges, filling cracks and just finding tons of new shit you can do there.

7-Where is a spot or city that you would like to skate that you haven’t been to?
I’ve always wanted to go skate in a big city like New York. or hills in SF would be fun.

8-What is something cool about being from Canada?
The free health care is tight, i have a broken wrist and nuckle right now. im sure surgery in the states would’ve cost quite abit. and the loads of landscape. British Columbia is the shit in the summer! You can camp in the mountians, swim in the Okanogan and go skating in the same day.

9-Any skate projects that you are currently working on?
Ipath has been wanting to do a video for abit but the deadline keeps getting pushed, i dont know whats up with it haha. other than that, local video – serenity now.

TRAFFIC TRAJECTORY

These past two weeks has had Traffic up on the big stage with our Trajectory pieces on The Berrics. I know some fans of Traffic haven’t been all that jazzed to see us up on The Berrics but an opportunity came via Chris Mulhern, who recently got a job with The Berrics. I could tell from his initial email that he was skeptical if I would be down to promote Traffic through The Berrics channels. Honestly I am not wasting my days on The Berrics, or most skate sites but The Berrics is a piece of skating that just so happens millions of young skate rats enjoy to peruse through. Chris is a friend from the Philly area and asked if I would be into doing a Trajectory for the brand. For me it was a no brainer, Traffic, though a cool brand is still a brand on the rise and it would be not the brightest idea of me to shun the audience that Traffic could reach via The Berrics. Plus Eric Koston and Steve Berra are real skateboarders and I am down for that. It’s not like we had to represent Traffic their way, we got to do what we want and how we do things so I think that was a dope situation. Unfortunately that most of The Berrics viewers didn’t know too much or anything about Traffic beforehand, I am sure we got a grip of skaters more interested in our approach to skateboarding. Thanks to Chris, Steve, Eric, Stein, Gribben and all the skaters involved. The pieces came out real good from a few days of good times. Peep Trajectory episode 1 and episode 2 and get stoked!!!!!

Traffic Report 10/17/2011 Rich’s Release Party in Japan

At the end of the summer I flew out to Japan to surprise Rich during his Pro Release party in Tokyo. Big Wing had a cool idea to fly me out to be there at the party. It was a short trip for me but I haven’t seen Rich in a long time, this dude is never coming home. There were a l;ot of old friends to see and many more new ones, Japan is amazing. The Japanese skate scene is amazing. Enjoy the edit done by the one and only Pat Hirose. Peep the report HERE!!!

RICH’S BOARD RELEASE PARTY

So now that I have had a week to get over my jet lag from my quick trip to Japan, here is a post about Rich’s party in Shibuya, Tokyo. Many thanks to Habuchin and BigWing Distribution for holding a bash in Rich’s honor for his first professional board. With artwork by Hiroki, the graphic came out amazing, one of the more unique graphics to date. The cool tip about the trip was that though Rich knew he was having a party he did not know that I was flying in to be a part of the festivities. I flew in a day before and posted up in Yokohama at Pat’s house before sneaking up to Shibuya to surprise Rich. With the plans not set in stone, Pat and I had to bob and weave so I wasn’t seen by Rich beforehand. So many people came out to support Rich was great to see. Habuchin held the party at this club where he hung Rich and Deshi’s two new graphics along with some pictures of Rich. Deshi was up in the mountains and wasn’t able to be there in person but he did send a message that they framed and hung as well. Deshi is dope. They had some DJ’s and there was a small miniramp on the bottom floor that kept people entertained. Rich arrived a little after 9pm and walked through before I snuck up and surprised him in which it took him a few seconds to register that I was actually there. Rich said it was like looking at a ghost. Yuichi was a natural on the mic getting the crowd pumped. Good times to see everyone have a good time, special thanks again to Habuchin & Yoshie, Pat & Eling and BigWing for making it all happen. Great to see Morita, Iseki, Katsumi, Utah and meeting many new faces in Japan. Since I have been home, another 6.4 mag earthquake has hit Japan. Let us all hope that mother nature stops picking on Japan. Our hearts are with you. Peep more photos of this night on Traffic’s Facebook page………………….

If you just happen to be in Shibuya neighborhood of Tokyo, Japan tonight, come out and party done with Rich. Big Wing distribution with help from friends are holding a board release party for Rich to celebrate his pro-ness. We would’ve had a party in Philly but since Rich is turning Japanese and doesn’t want to come home Big Wing stepped up and is throwing a good time his way. If you need directions or any info look up Big Wing Distribution because I have no fucking clue! I will be feeding my kids breakfast when the good times are rolling. Congratulations Rich!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
